Investigation of Truncated Waveguides
N.P. Lourie, D.T. Chuss, R.M. Henry, E.J. Wollack Abstract The design, fabrication, and performance of truncated circular and square waveguide cross-sections are presented. An emphasis is placed upon numerical and experimental validation of simple analytical formulae that describe the propagation properties of these structures. A test component, a 90-degree phase shifter, was fabricated and tes...
متن کاملA Reconfigurable Plasmofluidic Lens
Plasmonics provides an unparalleled method for manipulating light beyond the diffraction limit, making it a promising technology for the development of ultra-small, ultra-fast and power-efficient optical devices. To date, the majority of plasmonic devices are in the solid state and have limited tunability or configurability. Moreover, individual solid-state plasmonic devices lack the ability to...
متن کاملPlasmofluidic Disk Resonators
Waveguide-coupled silicon ring or disk resonators have been used for optical signal processing and sensing. Large-scale integration of optical devices demands continuous reduction in their footprints, and ultimately they need to be replaced by silicon-based plasmonic resonators. However, few waveguide-coupled silicon-based plasmonic resonators have been realized until now. Moreover, fluid canno...
متن کاملExperimental Demonstration of Luneburg Waveguides
Transformation optics gives rise to numerous unusual optical devices, such as novel metamaterial lenses and invisibility cloaks. Very recently, Mattheakis et al. (Luneburg lens waveguide networks. J. Opt. 2012, 14, 114006) have suggested theoretical design of an optical waveguide, based on a network of Luneburg lenses, which may be useful in sensing and nonlinear optics applications. Here, we r...
متن کاملInvestigation of ultrasonic waveguides for medical therapy
Theoretically it was determined that changing longitudinal rigidity of waveguide the longitudinal vibrations amplitudes are increasing. The cross-section of waveguide is decreasing from the generating point towards its free end. Experimental results show that the free end of the waveguide is influenced by longitudinal vibrations only, which could be used for blood vessels cleaning.
